Apostille
An apostille is a simplified form of legalisation. A document with an apostille is valid in all countries of the 1961 Hague Convention without consular legalisation.
How it works
An apostille is affixed to original official documents or, if the original cannot be used, to their notarised copies.
The authority that affixes the apostille certifies it with its seal. The signature and the seal need no further certification.
An apostille can be affixed to
- Original civil registry documents: certificates, statements
- Original education documents: school certificates, diplomas
- Notarised documents: powers of attorney, consents, declarations
- Notarised copies of official documents: passports, ID cards
- Company documents certified by the registration authority: charters, registration and tax registration certificates
An apostille cannot be affixed to
- Damaged or illegible documents
- Illegible copies and copies with corrections
- Original passports and identity cards
- Medical certificates with a triangular stamp
- Documents of diplomatic and consular institutions
- Documents on commercial or customs operations
